What Is A Blog, Anyway?

A blog is a journal style website, usually updated daily with user-friendly software requiring little to no technical skills. Postings on a blog are usually sorted in chronological order and are commonly available through RSS feeds.

New research shows us that the number of blog readers in quickly growing, and many are expecting companies to have one. Blogs tend to require a good deal of time to maintain, but there are benefits.

Information is power. A blog is a great way to share that information about your own business and industry, with the added bonus of feedback from your readers and contributors. The feedback from a blog can be extremely helpful in providing insight on trends and shifts in your industry and how best to adjust with your market.

Since blogs are a constantly changing entity and encourage linking with other blogs, they are likely to boost the search engine ranking for your business. Posting to a blog allows for the opportunity to link back to your own website. These links, when clicked by viewers of your posting, will be directed to your website for more information. Subsequently, you will see a boost in your website traffic. Be sure to select blogs that are relevant and reputable. Blogs are becoming known as influencers of consumers and the decisions they make.

A blog with membership of knowledgeable and articulate contributors can elevate your business to a position of authority. Carefully select a few blogs and contribute your insight. Instead of being just another competitor, post wisely and you can become an industry leader.
