Recently I met someone who was describing to me a new set of furniture that they had just bought for a new addition on their home. This room was referred to as a breakfast nook and the new furniture was a breakfast nook set. I wondered what in the world a breakfast nook set was. With curiosity coupled with a need to visit them anyway, I soon became introduced to their new breakfast nook set.

A breakfast nook set is a special set of furniture that is purchased for a part of the kitchen or for a specific room. This set of furniture includes a table and chairs or benches. That sounds simple enough, but there is much more to it, I came to find out. Since this room was a five sided addition to their home the chose a round table with chairs. The roundness of the table accented the half octagon shape of the room. Then the breakfast nook seating was gathered around it. The one fact that this home owner loved what a table with a leg in the very center, such as most round tables possess, allowed her to place more chairs around the table whenever more people came to visit.

Other breakfast nook sets which are more suitable for square or rectangular areas have a rectangular shaped table and benches. When the breakfast nook is located on the side of the kitchen a three sided bench that is one large piece is a great choice. More people can be squeezed into a bench than into chairs. The kitchen is a less formal area. Whereas a breakfast nook room is similar to having a formal dining room, having part of an eat in kitchen outfitted with a breakfast nook set is less formal and more family friendly setting. Families and their visitors, especially with lots of kids, feel fine about sliding around the benches and seating multiple people. This is where a breakfast nook set helps out tremendously with seating.

Breakfast nook sets designed with benches are also perfect places for additional storage. With benches that open, things can be stored inside. But be careful- if your kitchen is anything like mine-- your small children might be convinced that that bench with the opening lid was meant just for them to store their art supplies, toy pots and pans, and of course their plastic food! What else could this breakfast nook set be good for?
