What Is A Photovoltaic Solar System?

Members of the public who keep track of environmental news and updates would not

have failed to note the declining availability of conventional energy sources in the long run. Increased emissions of greenhouse gases and gradual warming of the environment mean that alternative energy sources need to be developed and implemented soon if the planet is to survive and thrive. Photovoltaic solar systems are one such alternative source of energy.

Photovoltaic systems employ electrical energy generation through the conversion of solar radiation into electricity through the usage of semiconductors that display photovoltaic behaviour. A photovoltaic solar system is the equipment employed during power generation and which contains photo solar panels to facilitate the conversion of sunlight to electricity.

Industries directly or indirectly involved in the production of solar cells and photovoltaic components have grown tremendously due to the rising demand for alternative energy sources in recent years.

There are a number of advantages to employing photovoltaic solar energy systems for electrical generation. Firstly, a practically unlimited amount of sunlight reaches the surface of the Earth daily; unlike the limited supply of fossil fuel we currently use. This ensures a constant supply of energy.

Moreover, little to no pollution is produced during generation and usage of solar power, which is a significant and distinct advantage over other conventional sources of energy. The miniscule amount of end-waste produced can be easily handled using current pollution controls. Additionally, the initial and operating costs of constructing a power plant are also relatively low.

However, nothing is perfect. The supply of solar power is largely dependent on the weather. This means that a reasonable amount of electricity cannot be generated if conditions are cloudy or rainy. Such a situation is unacceptable to intensive production-based industries and industrial areas that require a constant and dependable power supply. As such, alternate power systems to this alternative power source must be set up as back-ups, decreasing the practicality of photovoltaic solar systems as a whole.

Although there are distinct advantages in using photovoltaic systems, certain kinks and problems have to be ironed out before this method of power generation becomes viable.
