What Is A Sculpture Park?
In simple terms a sculpture park is similar to an art gallery, or museum where visitors can wander around and look at the various exhibits. One main difference however is that in a sculpture park, if something catches your eye and interest, you might actually be able to purchase a sculpture for sale and take it home! This makes a sculpture park a cross between a museum, or public garden, and a high end garden centre.
If you are someone who loves to look at sculpture, you might be happy enough to simply walk around the various sculptures and admire the craftsmanship of each artist. However, you may well be tempted to make a purchase when you realize that the sculptures aren't as expensive as you might have thought, or that they have some sculptures for sale that will fit into your home or garden.
Sculpture parks in the wild
A sculpture park is a great place to take children. Not only will they be experiencing art in one of its finest forms, but they will be outdoors in the fresh air - something that too many children don't currently experience. What you will need to keep in mind however is that even though the park is outdoors, it is still a public exhibition and as such there are rules for behaviour that your children will need to adhere too. For example, although the exhibits are close and inviting, they are not only for people to look at, they are often sculptures for sale, and as such should be treated with respected. Make sure that your children don't climb onto the sculptures, even the larger more permanent exhibits, or damage them in any other way. Likewise if the sculpture park offers a picnic area, or has a lake or other water feature, respect the area by not leaving litter lying around.
Inspiration included
One of the great things about a sculpture park is the inspiration it can give you for your own garden. Sculptures are not simply exhibited in rows. Instead they are carefully placed in landscaped areas where they are shown to their best advantage. This allows you to see what can be created in a smaller space as well as a larger one. You can see the kind of plants and trees which enhance the beauty of the sculpture and visualize how it would work in your own garden.
A day out at a sculpture park is a different way of spending some quality time in the great outdoors. Plus, with sculptures for sale at the park, you might even be able to take a great souvenir home with you for your own garden. What better way could there be to remember the day out than a one of the exhibits that had been on display?
