What Is An Ltl Courier?
LTL courier service is something which is going to be used by most people that are shipping loads larger than small packages at some point in time
. The average Chicago courier service that moves freight for corporate clients makes a significant portion of their income from LTL shipments, simply because this is probably the category of shipping into which the highest portion of overall clients fall. That is because it is among the most flexible, and the most affordable trucking options available, making it clearly desirable to many who need to ship their products with a courier company.
LTL and FTL are the two terms which are used to describe the two major options that people have when they hire a trucking service to move their cargo for them. These two services mean less than truck load and full truck load respectively. Essentially, it is the difference between sharing the space in a single trailer between several clients and only having one client shipping goods in a single vehicle.
There are advantages to each of these shipping methods. The reason that LTL is used by so many people doesn't necessarily have to do with any particular advantage, but is more a product of the fact that it is best suited for the types of cargo that most people are shipping. Loads that weigh anywhere between 100 and 10,000 lbs, a very large category, are best suited for LTL shipping. It is only when cargo weighs more or less than that that other options become the preferred method of shipping.
The best thing about LTL shipping is the money that it can save someone. When you're shipping FTL, you're essentially going to be responsible for every cost that is faced by the courier while making the delivery. When shipping LTL though, many of those costs can be shared between your organization and the others that are shipping with that same courier. This is a great way to save some money on your shipping.
The only downside to LTL is that it isn't normally going to be as fast as FTL shipping. This is because the company will prioritize the shipments based on a logical delivery route, so yours could take longer than you expect, as it will have to wait for the delay caused by each previous delivery. That additional speed is why some people getting close to the upper weight limit opt for FTL shipping instead.
