What Is Best For Lindsay Lohan - Time In Prison Or A Rehab Center?

Lindsay Lohan has become one of many people who fall victim to drugs and find that

they lose their perspective and ability to make positive life choices. Her alleged addiction has led to a series of bad choices, which have found her fall foul of the law on more than one occasion.

Lindsay is an American actress, model and singer who has been making movies and modeling since she was a child. However, the start of Lindsay's problems with the law began when in 2007 she was pulled over by police while driving and charged with driving under the influence.

Since her arrest, her life has been a series of trips to jail, rehab and scandal. On September 17, 2010 she failed a court ordered drug test and must now await a judge's decision to return her to jail or to go once again to a rehab facility. Lindsay herself announced the failed drug test from her Twitter account and said that she was prepared to accept the consequences.

However, this turn of events brings about the question: what is better jail or rehab? Most experts are of the opinion that rehab is a more effective treatment than being sent to jail for people with addictions like Lindsay. Jail will not help her to overcome the reasons for the addiction and get clean once and for all.

There are lots of different reasons that someone might become addicted to different substances. They can include socio-economic or environmental factors and using drugs may be a form of escape or of rebellion. There are many courts around the US that now understand that effect rehab facilities are in some cases a preferred method than sending an offender off to jail as this may prevent them from further criminal acts.

Unfortunately, too many celebrities enter rehab facilities and leave before they can really be successfully treated for their addictions. True rehabilitation is a long process and it requires ongoing psychological assistance and therapy to understand the reasons for the addiction and to give the person the strategies to overcome their addiction psychologically and prevent relapses.

Sending Lindsay Lohan to a rehab facility is going to help her to overcome her addiction and prevent her from having further run ins with the law. Only time will tell whether she is going to be able to get over the addiction and regain her career, which has faltered since her much publicized fall from grace.
