What Is Coronary Heart Disease?

If you follow the health blogs much, you will read how coronary heart disease

, or CHD is the number 1 cause of death for most of the people in the US. It has been found that taking omega 3 can help in the prevention of this disease.

What is CHD?

You could be uncomfortable or feel painful in your chest. You could feel as if someone was giving you a bear hug or just a feeling of a mild pressure. This could be possibly the result of the blood flowing to your heart having been cut off or partially blocked by a blood clot. It could even feel like acid indigestion. As quite many people suffer from acid indigestion that they could ignore the sign of angina or a heart attack. If the blood supply remains cut off, the muscles of your heart will begin to get affected. A person showing these symptoms needs immediate help or they could die.

Do you have a family history of CHD? Have you experienced any of the type of chest discomfort described above? If the answer is "YES", then it is high time that you consult your doctor immediately. If you still do not have any heart problems, then you should look into adding omega 3 to your diet.

Talk to your doctor about omega 3. My doctor supports it and so do most of the people in the medical fraternity. They know that the unsaturated fats present in fish can help you reduce your chances of having CHD. They are also called omega 3 fatty acids. The AHA recommends that people consume fish at least twice a week.Fish such as salmon, tuna, cold water oily fish. Cat fish won't do it. I wish the cat fish had all these qualities, I love cat fish. Salmon has the most omega 3 in it, tuna may not have as much but is still a benefit to eat. Most of the sea foods can give you omega 3 but only in minute levels. Most freshwater fish have less omega 3 than salt water fish. Only a type of trout found in fresh water can give you fairly high levels of the omega 3 fatty acids. So trout sounds like a good choice too. Catfish and tilapia are not as heart healthy as other fish. They contain a higher amount of the unhealthy fats. Also when cooking fish, broiling or baking is a much better option than deep frying.

These unsaturated fatty acids, or omega 3 found in the cold water fish will possibly lower your HDL or bad cholesterol. This would keep your arteries open allowing the blood enriched with oxygen to flow to your heart unobstructed. This would greatly reduce your chances of getting a heart attack.

Omega 3 reduces inflammation in your body. They could also reduce your triglyceride and lower your blood pressure. The benefits go on and on.

Who would have thought that just by adding one type of food to our diet could improve our lives to such an extent.
