What Is Dental Cleaning And Why Should We Have Them?

Good oral hygiene is very important for our total well-being

. Healthy teeth and gums give us confidence and healthy looking smiles. More than your physical appearance, good hygiene promotes good health as it prevents gum disease, infection, bone loss, heart disease, strokes and more. Make sure to visit your dentist for a regular dental check up.

Dental cleaning involves removing plaque and tartar deposits that may build up especially in between teeth over a period of time.

Our teeth are continually soaked in saliva which is also a source of calcium and other substances that will help protect your teeth. While this is something good, calcium deposits may build up on the teeth and this chalky substance will build up and stain your teeth over time just like a lime scale in a pipe or kettle. If we allow the stain to accumulate on the teeth it will unfortunately be a house for bacteria build up.

The main purpose of dental cleaning and polishing is to leave the surfaces of the teeth clean and smooth to prevent bacteria build-up. Regular brushing will keep the teeth clean while at home. Dental cleaning will also leave your teeth smooth and clean. It cannot be argued that nothing could be nicer than having a smooth white teeth and a fresh clean breath.

How is dental cleaning done?

Even if you brush regularly three times a day, nothing can compare with a regular dental cleaning. The dentist uses specialized instruments to gently remove plaque, tartar and other deposits without harming your teeth. Instruments like Ultrasonic which is commonly used first to remove larger pieces of tartar build up. It is a tickling vibrator that sprays a cooling mist of water while working to wash away debris and keep the cleaned are at a proper temperature. Fluoride foam or gel is then applied over the teeth for 30 seconds to finish it off. So you are very sure that your teeth are protected after scraping off stains on the teeth.

Is Dental Cleaning painful?

This is a common question asked by most children who are first timers in dental cleaning. But is it really painful? Most people find dental cleaning as painless although there are some instruments and processes which you may find uncomfortable or stingy. But over all, a lot of people enjoy the clean effect, the fresh breath and a lovely smooth feel of teeth. The stingy sensation during the process will only take a few seconds but the lasting effect is going to take a long time.

In case you may have experienced a painful dental cleaning in the past, switching to other dentist or hygienist may be a wise thing to do. Dental cleaning is part of our personal hygiene. We should -maintain good hygiene to have a better self-confidence.
