What Is Drug Addiction?
The reason why someone is a drug addict is usually hard for many people to understand
. The common misconception with these people is that people who are drug addicts lack will power. However, if you know someone who is an addict, you know that this is not true. Drug addiction is a disease that is developed after constant drug abuse.
To understand how a person develops a drug addiction, we need to first understand how drug abuse starts. Drug abuse is usually defined by the excessive use of prescription drugs or stimulant medications. This usually leads to distress or problems and affects around 7% of the population at some point or another in their life.
Drug addiction is the result of excessive drug abuse. This leads to major problems that include either withdrawal or tolerance to the substance along with other issues where an addict can suffer socially, physically and mentally.
Drug addiction is the result of the excessive use of any substance that can result in the feeling of euphoria. Alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, and heroine are some of the drugs used by drug addicts. They might temporarily give you the feeling of complete ecstasy, but once the effects of the drug wear off, you feel the urge to use the drug again. There are many complications that occur because of constant dependency on a drug.
These complications not only include physical and mental diseases, but also are the cause of an increase in domestic violence in many families. People who have a drug addiction are less likely to hold a steady job and more likely to have poor health and social life. Medical complications include heart attacks, respiratory problems, liver and kidney failure and even death.
It is very important that you should try to help people who you know who suffer from such an addiction. People who suffer from substance dependence should be encouraged to join an addiction recovery center where they can attend different programs and come out sober. Though the process involves a lot of will power to avoid a relapse, it also requires support from all family and friends.
You should try to encourage the people who are in an addiction recovery center to improve and come out sober. It is also a good idea to join a drug prevention program even after returning from the addiction recovery center. These programs help family and prior drug addicts to improve there life after drug addiction.
