What Is Dubstep Music?
There are several different genres of music
There are several different genres of music. The more popular genres might include pop, rock, country and classical. There are also different variations of rap and other types that are relatively well known as well. One type of music that is not mainstream is known as dubstep music. This type of music is relatively unknown and incredibly recent in its development.
It first came about in about 1999, although it did not really evolve into what it is today until 2001. It can be described to people who have never heard it as a blend of electronic dance music with some dark garage hints in there as well. Typically it consists of an abundance of bass lines along with excess amounts of drums. Occasionally there are vocals mixed in with this genre of music; however, usually it is only done with instruments and created on a computer.
This type of music can be traced back to the UK in its early beginnings. More specifically, one can find some of the earliest dubstep artists to be from South London. As mentioned before, it's got a relatively dark feel to it and is therefore often played in a minor key. Some similar genres of music that have their claim to influencing this genre might include techno and basic channel. Heavy metal has also contributed to the making of this genre, along with in some cases, classical music. This odd mix of various dark sounds makes up for a lot of garage music that is becoming more and more popular as it is spreading to the masses.
Although this type of music is not necessarily the most popular, it has influenced many artists and musicians to date. People such as Steve Gurley, Oris Jay and Zed Bias have been linked to the beginning stages of dubstep and there are currently many dubstep record labels also. Some of the more popular record labels that produce this genre of music would include Tempa, Soulja, Road, Vehicle, Lifestyle, Texture and Bingo.
Unlike many other genres in which great vocals are necessary, dubstep music can be created by anyone who does not have a talent for vocals. The fact that this type of music is created entirely with electronic devices is what makes it appealing to the musically impaired. No longer does someone need to have a good, well-trained voice and no longer does someone need to learn a physical instrument in order to learn about and participate in music. Instead, they can simply head to the computer and delve into this relatively new and unique genre that doesn't require the same tools as the majority of genres do.
