The history of Homeopathy begins with Samuel Hahnemann

, a German physician who abandoned his medical practice of Allopathy (conventional medicine) because he realized it did more harm than good, which we can still see nowadays in toxic medicines, amputations or the removal of vital organs.

Being proficient in several languages, Hahnemann began working as a translator of medical and literary texts. While translating A Treatise of the Materia Medica by Willian Cullen, he was startled by the authors claim that chinchona bark was effective in treating malaria. This was proved wrong by Hahnemann, who prepared a highly concentrated mixture which was ineffective against malaria.

However, he decided to test the physiological effects of chinchona bark by taking four drams (around seven grams) twice a day during several days. Hahnemann was surprised to develop symptoms similar to those of malaria, which made him wonder whether the curative effects of chinchona bark resulted from its ability to cause symptoms similar to those of the disease.

Hahnemann studied other medicines of his time, such as mercury, arsenic and belladonna. He found that in overdose, the medicines caused symptoms similar to those of the illness they were used for, while in small doses they stimulated the body to cure such illness.

What is Homeopathy? It is the medical system based on this principle, named by its discoverer like that, from the Greek words homoios for similar and pathos for disease.

Homeopathy works behind the fact that two similar diseases can not exist in the same body. A Homeopathic remedy causes symptoms similar to those of a sick person in a very subtle manner that it will never lead to develop adverse effects. In doing this so sharply, the body is forced to throw off the disease.

Homeopathic remedies do not cause addiction, because only a minimal amount of the active ingredients are present in them. Thus, the remedies can be used for a long period of time if necessary.

Working according to nature is the aim of Homeopathy. It assists the bodys own healing mechanism rather than override it, which may bring devastating results. For instance, Allopathic medicines aim to suppress the symptoms of disease. Since cure does not take place, the symptoms continue spreading into the only place they can: deeper into the organism. As this happens, they change form and start affecting more important organs. Eventually, you may end up with a disease that has a totally different name but there is still a connection between it and the one that was suppressed.

Homeopathy has benefited people from all walks of life and all over the world. The basic definition of Homeopathy is a medical system that is effective and safe for everyone. It is not a quick fix, for it addresses the underlying cause of disease which results in its complete eradication. This is way better than suppressing symptoms in terms of long-lasting health.
