What Is Hypnosis And How A Hypnotherapy Session Works?
What is Hypnosis?
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is merely a change in mental state, induced by suggestion, a relaxed state of focused attention. Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnotism for therapeutic purposes. Many people do not realize that hypnosis is a tool that has been developed over centuries, and that its effectiveness is supported by numerous scientific studies. Over the past century, hypnosis has been used by many reputable and conventional medical professionals, including the Mayo brothers of Mayo Clinic fame!
What Hypnosis is Not
Contrary to many popular portrayals, hypnosis is not sleep. It is not unconsciousness. It is not giving up control. You cannot be forced to do anything under hypnosis.
How a Hypnotherapy Session Works
When you are in a hypnotherapy session, I guide you into a deep state of relaxation, a mental space in which we can work together on your chosen issues. However, it is up to you how far into hypnosis you will go. I can only guide you; I cannot force you into hypnosis.
You will remain aware of both yourself and what I am saying, while you are under hypnosis. However, you will be so relaxed that you will probably lose the desire to move or pay attention to anything but the issues we are working on during our session.
While you are under hypnosis, you can accept or reject anything that I say. If I say something that is in line with your beliefs or desires, you may accept it. However, if I tell you something that seems unacceptable to you, you can reject it. Hypnosis cannot be used to brainwash you, since you are ultimately the master of your own mind.
In laymans terms, hypnosis is the clinical use of the power of positive thinking to correct and heal mental, physical, and emotional issues, according to your personal expectations.
In scientific terms, hypnosis is a method of a mental programming. To be more precise, a hypnotic state is an altered state of highly focused consciousness in which the conscious or aware mind is bypassed and the subconscious mind (below conscious perception) is accessed directly.
The subconscious mind is far more powerful than the conscious mind. It is the seat of all of your stored experiences and knowledge. Through it, you can access memories, emotions, and events suppressed or repressed by your conscious mind. In fact, your subconscious mind can reveal facts and information that you might think youve lost or forgotten, revealing the root cause of feelings, behaviors, and attitudes. These, in turn, can be strengthened, modified or eliminated according to your needs.
