What Is Involved in Saving A Relationship
Saving a relationship is a must when you know the other person is worth it. No relationship is perfect, and some will always have their ups and downs like a rollercoaster ride. When it gets to the bottom most part, you need to do something in order to save it - that is, if it is worth saving.
It is always good to give every relationship at least a second chance, though a third and a fourth chance is not mandatory. But when you honestly know it is worth saving, then by all means try to do so. Any fight just could be a miscommunication, a problem due to the longevity of the relationship, or a lack of understanding and patience. Do not ever act like a kid, act your age and do not let childish issues run havoc. Who are we that cannot forgive? That we cannot give other people second chances?
When you, however, decide to give a person a second chance (or a third or fourth), make sure that you are not compromising your own convictions. Make sure that you are compromising sensibly. If, for instance, the other person is a drug and an alcohol addict and has had too many relapses, you should know better than to give a second chance, as such a situation could be adversely affecting your life in many ways.
If he does not want to help himself out, or refuses to be a better man, then you know that you deserve a better relationship apart from him. If he keeps hurting you over and over again, then saving the relationship may do more harm than good, and will eventually take its toll on you. The point is that you also need to save someone, and that is yourself. You must give yourself the love that you need before you can truly love another, or before it is actually possible to attempt to save someone else.
Assess your relationship first. Be sure that it is truly worth saving. And most importantly, when your partner shows or has shown that he is worthy to be given forgiveness and a shot at another chance, then be willing to do so. Also, make sure to see the relationship in an objective light and do not see things in rose colored glasses. You need to be as honest as possible, free from your own biases and self centeredness as well.
The key to saving a relationship is to work on it when you have both cooled down. Think it over when emotions are not high, when time has at least given you the time to think things over. And lastly, saving a relationship is not a one way street. Both of you must keep fighting for the relationship and for the fire to keep burning.
