Soreness will persist for up to four weeks but should gradually subside and be completely gone up to eight weeks after the surgery has been performed.

Often, doctors use local anesthetic as it lowers the post-surgery pain levels and helps minimize any possible pain during surgery as well.

Elastic compression garments like compression pantyhose and other such things are a very good idea to minimize soreness post-procedure. If you opt out of stitches and enable complete drainage of the tiny liposuction incisions, this will enable you to decrease soreness and increase your ability to engage in normal day-to-day activities.

The wonderful news is that most patients who undergo liposuction and use local anesthesia don't have to lie in bed for very long. In fact, moving around and getting some exercise is recommended by a majority of doctors! After your procedure, you can expect to be driving within forty-eight hours and returning to a normal work schedule in as little as seventy-two hours! Typically, patients wait three to four days to return to work but that much less time than most people expect.

It is crucial to follow all of your surgeon's instructions and report any abnormal swelling or drainage immediately. Complications can arise, just like with any other surgery and so it is best to err on the side of caution. Keep in close contact with your doctor in the weeks following your surgery in order to know what is normal and what is not. Very often, patients will be fine but there have been instances of complications. Be sure to listen to your doctor!

On the whole, get exercise; keep an eye out for anything unusual after your surgery and you could return to your normal life in just a few days after liposuction!
