What Is Leaky Gut
So what really is Leaky gut? All over the world people come from different cultures and ethnic societies and have different beliefs and traditions
. Some have experienced Leaky Gut symptoms and have thought it to be a curse from God, others to be other myriad ailments plaguing a certain region such as Diarrhea. Some people believe it to be a nutrient deficiency problem.
This has led to many people seeking the wrong medical treatment and in turn has worsened their conditions. The medical practitioners have not been left out in this issue. This sector is now striving to create awareness about this complication since it is emergent in the human population because it is not a recognized medical condition.
Leaky gut syndrome is a condition whereby the bowel lining is damaged due to a number of factors which include:
1- Poor diet 2- Toxins 3- Medications 4- Infections 5- Parasites 6- NSAIDS such as aspirin.
These factors lead to an increased permeability in the gut lining. This leads to substances that are not supposed to be in the body's circulatory system being absorbed in the lumen. Substances such as toxins, undigested food, larger than normal macro-molecules among others leak through the affected gut wall and affect the body or postulate an immune reaction to these substances e.g. corticosteroids which suppress immune function.
Increased permeability in the intestinal wall is as a result of the widening of the junctions between the cells causing intestinal inflammation. These toxins and other substances absorbed in the blood stream cause a semi-infectious state and can be transported through the blood stream to stimulate the release of cytokines.
Some of the symptoms associated with leaky gut are;
1- Fever 2- Low gut pain 3- Inability to absorb nutrients,etc
This syndrome is believed to be associated with many disorders such as asthma, autism, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, lupus, diabetes among many more. Though still controversial, a lot of evidence point out leaky gut syndrome to be the cause or starting point of these disorders.
There are many proposed treatment procedures involving both medical and dietary measures. These include using gluten-free diets, anti-fungal diets, low-sugar diets, casein-free diets and supplements that contain B12 and pro-biotics. Leaky Gut Syndrome is a condition that is affecting millions of people worldwide.
And because the symptoms can be so difficult to correlate, few people are actually getting the treatment that they need. When looking for an effective Leaky Gut Syndrome treatment be sure to find one that is uses diet and nutrition as the foundation and is not entirely based upon supplements.
