What Is Linkbait And Why Is It Such An Important Aspect?

The term linkbait may not be one you have heard of before

, but it SHOULD be one of the tactics you have been using for your website. The term in itself (also called link baiting, linkbait, link bait, etc.) is merely a description used to describe a "variety of practices" to generate incoming links to a website from another website or blog. Most of us that have websites online should know about backlinks, incoming links, outgoing links, SERPS, etc. The point of this is to get a link back to your website and this can really be done in an array of tactics - some of which are a little more on the iffy side of things such as haranguing an author on a website or starting "arguments" on an article that someone wrote. To more ethical and pure modes such as providing tools for people to link back to your website.

For the most part, link baiting is usually written on a more negative outlook, maybe this is simply because of the term rather than the action itself - the term bait means to catch someone or trap them. We aren't doing this when we linkbait, we are merely using another marketing tactic to get people to your website. The benefits of getting people TO your website is immense. You can start earning more money if you have AdSense or ad space for rent on your blog or your website. You could end up getting new subscribers to your blog if you write good content. You can also end up getting secondary traffic as a result of primary traffic. And lastly, one of the best benefits of using linkbait is the search engine rankings. Incoming traffic, even after it dies down will allow google to rank your website.

You have to remember that backlinks and incoming links are somewhat like a voting poll with Google, they see a site with a ton of incoming links and traffic and they consider that to be a quality site. The longer you are indexed and people can do a search for a keyword and have YOUR site come up, the better. Remember, no matter what, always use an array of tactics to market and promote your website. If one doesn't work for you, try one of the other hundreds of ways and never rely on JUST one tactic!
