What Is Men's Perspective On Women Dressing Up For A Night Out On The Town. Find Out Here
Stereotypically, males have a very negative perception with little or no appreciation
of the accompanying energy and effort that is expended by their date or significant other in preparation for an evening on the town in formal attire. Several young men ranging in age from thirty to almost seventeen were asked their opinion on their conception of a female's preparation of a date wearing a beautiful gown appropriately accessorized.
Men's typical response
The responses ranged from. "Oh my goodness, we will never get there" to " she had better start getting ready a week in advance if we are expected to arrive on Friday or Saturday night at nine o'clock!" Apparently, young men feel that females go through extraneous and unnecessary preparations for an evening in one of her elaborate formal dresses, simply because of the implications of wearing a long dress regardless of the destination, dinner or dancing.
Dress length and fabric - gosh
One subject stated that if the date required formal attire, the young lady gets "torn up from the floor up and needs a major overhaul. " For example, if she is wearing a floor length silk chiffon gown with a billowing layered skirt consisting of yards of mauve fabric, why must she shave her legs from the ankle to the top of her thigh? She is going to have her legs encased in pantyhose. Why add lotion before she slides on her hose; who is going to know? If by chance he does touch her leg or if someone should see her exposed leg, it will be relatively dark; no one will be able to tell if she shaved her legs.
Theoretically, the young lady will slather her gams in scented lotion before she puts on the pantyhose. WHo will know if it is expensive lotion or ninety-nine cents petroleum jelly? Most girls will use depilatory to remove every trace of hair from her arms. She will be wearing opera length gloves that encase her forearms from the tips of her fingers to the edge of the armpits, which renders this step "a study in futility."
Hairdo - oh my
Another young man complained about the interminable wait that he would endure while his date coiffed her hair until every ringlet shined like spun gold or glistening ebony. Usually in order to cement the hairdo in place the hair is sprayed with clouds of stiff hairspray. If by accident he touches her hair, his hand will recoil because the lacquer causes the hair resemble and feel like an impenetrable helmet that is as reprehensible as the accompanying scream that will emanate from his date if her hair is touched.
Makeup and lipstick issue
Equally unsettling is the makeup and lipstick. Kissing or touching his date's face is prohibited as it may be smudged if placed in close proximity or contact with human skin. In other words, the date becomes a "no contact" zone in order to preserve the illusion of utter perfection. One man compared a formal evening as a few hours with a moving, talking ice sculpture or mannequin that will dissipate if touched or caressed.
The general consensus of the male perspective of a formal evening is primarily negative, although most agreed that the finished female production was worth the waiting, the inconvenience, and the requirement to handle the lady with proverbial kid gloves. Most men agree that the lady in formal attire is the epitome of fantasy. It can be described as " an evening with a living doll."
