What Is Photorejuvenation And What Can It Do For My Skin?

Lasers can be used to help turn back the clock

. Cosmetic procedures using lasers are one of the most popular cosmetic procedures out there. They offer people extremely effective results without the problems that are associated with surgical procedures. A South Bay Medical Spa will likely offer a wide selection of treatments which are performed using lasers. Photorejuvenation is a term which refers to a wide spectrum of treatments that use lasers to make skin appear younger.

There are a number of skin problems which are associated with age which can be corrected or improved through photorejuvenation treatments. Sun damage, age spots, wrinkles, and scarring can all be improved when they are treated properly with lasers. In many cases these imperfections can actually be completely removed, or lessened to such a point where patients appear as if years have dropped off their appearance.

The process of photorejuvenation with lasers is also known as laser resurfacing. This process is completed using a device known as a fractional laser. It is called this because when the procedure is performed, ever small area of skin is broken into extremely tiny areas, only a few of which will actually be bombarded with the laser. This means that there is a great deal of healthy skin which is undamaged by the laser which surrounds the skin which has been heated by the laser. This helps improve the healing from the procedure.

When a laser heats a skin cell, it essentially damages it and causes it to heal. When the skin is forced to heal, it makes new skin cells which are healthy and more youthful than the ones which were destroyed by the laser. This is what ends up creating a complexion which is much younger looking and free of many of the imperfections which can afflict skin as we age.

There are other treatments which are known as photorejuvenation which use treatment mechanisms other than lasers. There are treatments which are completed using a device that delivers radio pulses rather than light pulses to create the same effect on the skin. Chemical peels are also a type of photorejuvenation. However, chemical peels can carry strong side effects and can leave the skin sensitive and sore after the procedure. Treatments with lasers on the other hand carry only a very low risk of side effects. Laser treatments are recommended to patients that are looking for the best results with the lowest risk of pain and side effects.
