What is rakeback?

Rakeback is an online poker term refering to recieving a percentage of your rake (the amount taken out of every pot played at any poker room) paid back to you. Most poker rooms will automatically deposit this money back into your player account no matter what website your rakeback is attached to, however there are still a few left that do not and the affiliate (website you signed up with) has to manually deposit these funds back into your player account.

There are 2 different ways that the various poker rooms calculate your rakeback, and those are either contributed or dealt. The contributed method of calculating your MGR (monthly gross rake) means that you will not get MGR credit unless you actually contributed to the rake. The dealt method of measuring your MGR is a much more saught after method as it entails dividing the rake up equally between all players at the table. The dealt method is a more expensive method in terms of paybacks to players for the poker rooms and as such you will find very few rooms that use this method.

Another important aspect of rakeback to consider is deductions. Deductions are accounted for by most of the major poker rooms and include deposits, withdrawals, bonus money earned and any points spent in the poker rooms store. Deductions at some of the major poker rooms can add up to a significant amount of your MGR and should be strongly considered when signing up for any particular rakeback deal. Trust me when i tell you that these deductions and fees add up even larger and have an even greater impact on the affiliate you are signed up to, but more on that in another article.
