What Is Seo And How Does It Work?

There are lot of good search engines out there but about 80% people worldwide use Google so that is what we will discuss in this article

. Just keep in mind the concepts I am discussing apply to all the other search engines too.

When you search for something with Google you get back a results page and there is lots of stuff on it. The number of results shows you how many websites Google found probably relevant to what you are looking for. On Google, companies can pay to have their website listed with ads when people search for particular things but it is the natural rankings section people most care about.

Now here is the important part people just dont know. Over 94% people that use Google only click results on the front page. If they dont find what they are looking for then they usually dont bother clicking on subsequent pages, instead they typically prefer to adjust those search terms and start from scratch.

And those people who click on that first page most only click sometime refer to as The Golden Triangle or top three of those results. And 63% of people just click right in there. This is why optimising your website or SEO is so important when people search what is relevant to them and they see your website in their search results they are going to click and visit your page.

And these are not any visitors, these are people that they are looking for exactly what you offer. So if anyone they are most likely to convert into customers, subscribers etc. But if your website is not showing up towards the top three results or if even not on the first page it is almost as though it doesnt exist as no one can even find it.

Suppose we do a search for California Sandals and we get back about 22,700,000+ million website, which is hardly a small number. Have you wondered why some websites show on this first page and others are way down at the bottom of pile? Well a sites position in search results is determined by what is referred to as page rank.

Everyone website has a ranking particular search or keywords. In the beginning the first search engines work by tracking all the words on web pages. So if your search for California Sandals, you get back a list of websites containing those keywords. Websites which had more keywords than their competitors often had a tendency to rank much higher.

Well, in 1996 two PhD students, noticed whilst searching academic papers that contain a lot of keywords didnt necessarily mean they were more relevant. What mattered a lot more was whether those papers were sited often by other papers. So they applied this situation concept to web search.

They suggested that websites that back link a lot, that is to say are referred by other websites are more likely to be relevant and that is how Google was born. Search engines today all follow this model, they still look at your website for keywords but then rank your sites relevance on the number and quality of back links to it from other websites, so think of like this.

Keywords lets Google See your site and know what it is about back link determine how much Google trusts yours site to be relevant. So keywords are important as they tell Google you are out there but back links move your website up the food chain. That is why the search results you see are called organic or natural results. They are constantly changing depending on what people do out there on the web. Unsurprisingly as there are two aspects to search engine optimisation.

.

First the onsite component; this is where you ensure your website words are relevant to searches that will be performed by your potential market audience. For example if you sell sandals in California you want to make sure relevant words are on your site like sandals, California, ocean, beach, flip flops, shoes, leather, sand things like that are mentioned.

The second component of SEO is called off site SEO this is where you work to create back links to your website that originate from other sources. Links to your site can be created using articles, social media, blog posts, discussion boards etc. But keep this in mind the more influential or legitimate the website that links back to you the more affect that back link from that site is going to have on your search result ranking.

So that is it, SEO is super important because it helps you to move to the top relevant search results and since everyone relies on SEO to find anything online. SEO is the most effective way to increase traffic to your site. Good SEO takes time so sooner you start the sooner you move up the result ladder.
