What Is Team Building?
Team building is considered as a process which aims at developing teamwork and cooperation within a work unit. In order to form an effective team, the members must respect each other and be motivated to use their strength for the purpose of moving closer to their common objective or goal. Each and every member of a team has a very important role to play and they are the ones who are responsible for the success of a company.Today's organizations and corporations face a lot of problem such as outsourcing, understaffing, burnout, morale-defeating activities, etc. It is in times like these that business owners begin to realize how important it is to have proper communication within an organization. Hence efforts are being put in for the purpose of nurturing communication within a corporation. There are many reasons underlying the formation of committees or teams, and the individuals working in the company are free to become a part of any team that they like, sometimes even more than one team. For a team to be effective, it is important that its members should establish time for exchanging their ideas and for getting acquainted with one another. According to the point of view of an employee, it is beneficial to be a part of a team because this usually provides him/her a sense of ownership and loyalty. In other words, team building is all about the effort to improve the joint performance of the group of people sharing the same common goal. Towards the end of the twentieth century, the importance of team building was recognized and appreciated by a lot of organizations. Sadly, not all organization or company realize the importance of team building, some are still in the dark when it comes to this matter. It is just like a vague concept which people think is worthy, but they do not completely understand it.In order to understand what team building is all about, one has to delve deeper into the concept behind team building, and be clear about the meaning of teams in the first place. Most people often associate the word 'team' with a group of people. However this isn't the true meaning of a team. Not all groups of people are teams, only those who share a common objective can be termed as a team. However, simply having a common goal is not enough to bind the team together or to make it a successful one, the members of a team should always be willing to put in their best efforts, and to adjust with the others and work together competently in order to make a successful group. Hence, if the members share poor relationships with one another, then the overall success of the team would be limited. When it comes to team building, the team should always include the task of constantly monitoring the progress and improving the performances so that the team's overall performance can be improved. Also, all the restricting or inhibiting factors should be eliminated. One should try out different approaches to team building and see what works best for all the members of the team.
