What Is The Reason For Tacoma Backflow Testing?

Tacoma Backflow Testing is a way for the municipality to ensure contaminated water does not get into the public water system

. In-ground sprinkler systems for homeowners are a great convenience. However, they create an opportunity for damaging a pressurized water dispensing system. The annual test of a homeowner's backflow assembly device is their responsibility and there are penalties if it is overlooked. These tests are completed by certified professionals.

The test allows the opportunity for a specialist to inspect the homeowner's backflow devices for defects. A backflow prevention assembly device prevents water in your sprinkler system from flowing back into the public water system. These devices can break or wear out over time. To ensure there are no possibilities of contamination to city distributed water systems, the State of Washington's Health Department has made these tests a requirement each year.

American homeowners dream of having an in-ground sprinkler system as a way to conveniently keep their lawns healthy and green. Unfortunately, difficulties can occur when pressure in these systems are compromised. Low pressure can cause backflow from contaminated ground water.

Backflow may occur through back-siphonage or back-pressure. What this means is there is a higher pressure in the non-drinkable water system then in the drinkable. This causes the water to push through from one to the other to balance the pressure. Since this is a potential health hazard, cities require homeowners with sprinkler systems to install backflow assembly devices.

The cost to have this test done is not expensive. It needs to be performed by a certified backflow assembly tester. Once your system has passed the test, the tester will complete a letter certifying the successful test and forward it to the appropriate city office.

You must have the test completed or you will face some harsh penalties. You will be fined $100 per device not tested which will be included in your utility bill. The city can install a Reduced Pressure Backflow Assembly unit on your water meter at your expense or they can turn off your water service. You should be concerned with the quality of water you are drinking as a responsible homeowner.

Tacoma backflow testing is the best way to ensure you will always have healthy, clean water for your family and your community. If you don't you may cause a devastating impact on the quality of the overall water system through the introduction of contaminated water due to a defective device.
