May 11, 2012, Pittsburgh, PA. So youve decided that you want to be able to call yourself a welder. You planned a project, bought the materials; and now all you have to do is figure out how to weld.

Well before you do that, you have to figure out what type of welding is right for the projects you plan to undertake. To start the episode, Mr. TIG gives a brief description of What TIG Welding is, some of the common names for it and what T I G stands for.

At 1:00, the video begins to explain the three things that are required to make a good TIG weld. The first thing that every good welder will tell you is that you NEED a good torch. You can only be as good as the equipment you are using, so be sure to invest in quality gear. To go along with your new torch Mr. TIG recommends using a gas lens setup. He explains that a gas lens will make your life much easier, because the gas is spread more evenly as it leaves the torch; resulting in much less turbulence. The second rule to making successful TIG welds is your power supply. Knowing how to set your power supply for the material you are welding is absolutely essential. For more on power supplies, check out TIG Time Episode 5: Transformer or Inverter? That is the Question. The third piece of gear that is sure to make you the best you can be is a quality foot control.

Gear is extremely important, but believe it or not, you still have to know what you are doing. At 2:37 Mr. TIG explains the right angle to hold the torch, and when you should start feeding wire into the puddle.
