What Is Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction And Is It A Safe Procedure For Removing Fat?
Ultrasound assisted liposuction is also known as vaser liposuction
. It combines the standard technology with advanced surgical techniques to break up and remove fatty tissue from the body. However, it is not always advertise correctly as is not used, as often as some surgeons would have their patients think.
A large amount of the unwanted fat can be removed from the abs, arms, back, hips, knees, love handles, neck and chin, saddlebags, thighs and really any place on the body a person has developed unwanted fatty deposits using this method. It works pretty similar to other procedures for removing fat surgically. It still has a recovery period but it has some advantages to it that may work best in some situations depending on the patient.
The most important thing this method seems to offer over other methods is its ability to remove unwanted fat without severely damaging the surrounding tissue that will be left behind. The cannula and the heat help quickly break up and remove fat. This makes it a much more comfortable process on the patient. It also helps with a lot less pain after the surgery.
However, there are some dangerous and undesirable sides to this procedure. A large incision is made in the fatty area and then the large metal probe, which may be solid or hollow, is placed into the incision. Burns on the outside and inside of the skin can often occur with this process, which can also leave sever scaring. For this reason the procedure has largely been abandoned.
The external procedure of the ultrasonic technique was performed with the use of tumescent fluid. A metal paddle was put on the skin, which directed the ultrasonic energy into the subcutaneous fat layer. The subcutaneous fat layer is a much more difficult layer of fat to melt away from the body. It is located too close to vital parts of the body that it is a dangerous procedure to remove it.
When the ultrasonic assisted procedure was first discovered and used on patients the reports about its success were unrealistically enthusiastic. Many surgeons were not reporting the complications they were encountering. The good results were the only things being reported.
The FDA or Food & Drug Administration department has never given approval for the marketing and advertising of the ultrasonic assisting devices to be used for liposuction. The general reasoning behind this decision is based on the insufficient proof that the procedures were safe.
