However, there are some people that are dealing with products that are more regulated than these, which is why some people may have questions about exactly what courier companies are, and are not, allowed to transport.

The first things that it should be obvious that your courier company is not going to be legally allowed to transport are any items which are generally restricted or illegal under the general law. This means firearms, drugs, and other illicit substances are not going to be able to be shipped in most circumstances.

The exceptions to this sort of thing are couriers who are licenses to move certain types of goods. For instance, while an illegal or banned drug could never be transported, something like valium which is certainly a controlled substance obviously is also used extensively in health care and the pharmaceutical industry. Therefore specially permitted couriers can transport those goods. The same goes for transporting legal registered guns between a gun manufacturer and the stores that sell them. All of these couriers are special with special licenses, and you may have to seek them out.

Other things that general couriers are not allowed to carry include anything which is deemed toxic, hazardous, or explosive in nature. These substances are all controlled very carefully as is the transportation of them. While there are companies that are allowed to move these types of goods, they are again very specialized. They are required to have special equipment and training in order to move those types of goods.

Basically, anything which is not 100% illegal in all circumstances can be transported by some sort of courier, somewhere. Most general couriers or small package and parcel companies are not going to be equipped for transporting these types of goods though. In addition to what they are not allowed to transport, courier companies may also have their own internal rules about what they will refuse to transport. This might include any liquids or food products, as they may not want to risk spoilage or spilling or contamination of their other packages. Always check with a courier to find out what they permit you to ship with them.
