What Items Will My Courier Provide Me For Packing With?
Sometimes courier companies provide more services than you think they will
, but then you might find out they don't provide something that you assumed that they would. One of the most commonly made mistakes of this kind involves the assumption about packing materials. Many people assume that their Chicago courier would provide them with any kinds of packing materials that they might need.
This isn't the case most of the time however. The cost of maintaining a large inventory of packing materials and being able to deliver them to all of their clients could significantly hamper a courier's attempts to be successful. This would also slow them down in a number of ways in an industry where speed usually determines the most successful company.
It isn't fair to make a blanket statement about the fact that no courier company will provide any kind of packing materials though. Sometimes the availability of this service depends on the size of the courier company. It may also depend on the type of cargo they most frequently move.
Small parcel carriers don't usually have packing supplies to provide to you. What they may have is a central location where you can drop off your orders and also purchase packing supplies. This is also commonly seen in the small parcel outlets of the largest courier companies.
Trucking style courier companies may have different material available to you. Some trucking companies may also be able to provide you with pallets for shipping, or work with a supplier to provide those to you. Trucking companies that are also movers may provide more shipping supplies than those that simply haul freight. Moving companies probably provide the most in terms of supplies and may include moving blankets and furniture padding. Some of the larger companies may also be able to provide boxes to you.
If you ship a great deal, it might be more advantageous to you to purchase packing supplies in bulk, provided that you have the room available to store that amount of packing supplies. Sometimes a courier company might not sell individual packing containers, but might have a bulk supplier that they deal with. If this is the case, you can often get a preferred rate by buying your packing supplies through your courier rather than buying them from another company. It is at least worth looking into that option if you're looking for a good bulk rate on boxes or packing foam for example.
