What Kind Of Paperwork Do I Need To Ship From The Us To Canada?
When you're using a Chicago Messenger service to ship your goods to Canada
, you should be sure to ask them about the differences between shipping domestically and internationally. Because many Americans do so much business with Canada, we often overlook that all the rules of shipping internationally apply when shipping to Canada, even though it is so close and accessible. One thing that you always have to address when shipping internationally is the paperwork that must go with all shipments.
There is some pretty basic paperwork that has to go with all the shipments that you're sending to Canada. At its most basic level, the documents that you're going to need are the commercial invoice and the bill of lading. Basically, these two documents represent the two primary agreements in any shipping transaction. They show the agreement between the customer and your company, and your company and the courier that you are using to move the goods.
The document which is going to show the agreement between your company and your customer is simply the basic commercial invoice. This is the same document that you would issue to anyone that is buying a product from you, but when shipping internationally, it is critical that you do not forget this document. This will be the paperwork that shows exactly what is being shipped, and how much it is valued at.
The document which then details the arrangement between your company and the courier company is known as the bill of lading. Many times you may not see it written out that way, and many simply hear it referred to as the BOL. This contains all of the details about the business between your two companies. How much was paid for shipping will be listed. The two companies involved will be named. The addresses of the pickup and drop off will be listed, and the dates when the various actions of the shipment are to be performed will be listed.
There are times when you may also need trade agreement paperwork or import and export permits. This sort of documentation is much more complicated, and you should always ask for help from your courier company to make sure that it is all in order. That way, you can be sure to enjoy a seamless shipment across the border without anything happening to delay your goods. Do that, and you can be sure to find happy Canadian customers in your future.
