What Level Of Quality Of Life Do You Expect When You Are Older?
Research has told us that human aging begins long before those awful first signs appear
, wrinkles, diminishing eyesight, gray hair, loss of strength and body tone. By the time we get to our early thirties all of our body systems are already beginning to weaken and shrivel. As the years pass by everything from all over body strength, vision, brain power, memory to heart efficiency starts to diminish.
Despite the medical advancements and the increase in life span, the reality of aging as we know it is a depressing downward spiral of losing our heath along with our marbles. Indeed for many of older people today, getting more candles on our birthday cake goes hand in hand with illness. Around 50 percent of older people have at least one chronic medical condition and many have multiple conditions.
The average older person takes 12 doses of medication daily for a wide variety of ailments. It is accepted that life is punctuated by visits to the doctor, tests, drugs and the hospital. In fact many older people up and move house so they can be closer to these facilities. We have become so doctor and drug dependent yet there is not a doctor or drug available on this planet that can build a strong, lean, disease free, healthy body.
Why have we handed over our health and wellness to people in an establishment that is financially motivated? When have they ever addressed health? They only treat sickness.
They are nothing more than a sickness treatment system. After all you only go to them when you are sick and they try and find out what is wrong then do their best to treat it.
The medical establishment is the first to acknowledge that although they may have managed to extend the length of life, they have done little to improve the quality of life. People may be living longer but they are not living better. And better means a higher quality of health and therefore life.
But true health begins years (even decades) before this point. How you end up when you are older is nothing more than the result of what you do and do not do on a daily basis right back since you were 25 or 30. Ask yourself "what am I doing now to ensure I will have a health span that matches my life span?"
Take a look at your current lifestyle. Are you keeping your muscular system (the engine of your body) strong with proper exercise? How much of your diet is made up of processed foods? Are you always so busy you have not allowed time to take care of yourself with proper exercise and healthy eating?
Just two things would make a huge difference to your older years regardless of how old you are right now. A proper exercise program made up of mostly strength training exercise performed 2-3 times a week for life along with removing as many processed foods from your diet as possible and replacing them with quality whole foods cooked from scratch.
Those two things alone would do much to keep disease and sickness away so you do not have to live your life dependent on doctors and drugs. It is really up to each of us and is not dependent on luck or the 'lap of the gods'. Which choice will you make?
