We have all been in this situation before as men. The reason for this is because meeting a girl online is the same as having a blind date for the first time since you and the other person really don't know each other all that much except for any exchanges that you have had over the computer.
If you go to meet for a movie you will be sitting quietly and not talking to the other person for almost the entire duration of the date. This will easily make for a very awkward date and will likely not end up in the results that you were clearly hoping for when first agreeing to go out with this person.
