What Makes Dogs Shake In Their Sleep
Dogs are truly man's most loyal and affectionate pets
. Nature has not gifted dogs the ability to talk but these pets have not failed to offer affection and protection to humans. People choose different animals for a pet but dogs are probably the ones given the most love and care. Caring for a dog will never be easy for a person on a tight budget but a pet owner will never hesitate to scrimp if it means ensuring the well being of the pet. Despite the long association, a pet owner would not really know what the dog feels. The dog's inability to speak will always be the concern of pet parents especially if the pet is noticed to be under the weather.
The bond dogs form with the human family is legendary. This is very apparent by the inclination of the master and pet to be always together. Dogs are considered as the baby of the family and as such all eyes will be turned to the dog. A dog that is considered as the apple of the eye of the master will be watched even when sleeping. A dog owner watching the pet sleep will certainly be apprehensive if the pet suddenly shakes violently. Most dog owners would know about canine seizures thus it can be assumed that the sleeping and shaking dog is having a seizing episode.
The shaking of the sleeping dog can be a symptom of an illness. An uncomfortable feeling can make a sleeping dog shake too. Cold weather can be the reason why the sleeping dog shakes especially if it is not provided with adequate shelter. Sleeping puppies will shake too if they have crawled away from the mother's warmth.
The shaking of a dog that is not caused by a medical concern is most probably caused by a dream. Dogs are known to be good sleepers. Once the dog has reached the REM (rapid eye movement) stage of sleep, the dog, similar to humans would dream. Similar to humans, a dreaming dog is said to be relieving experiences.
Sleep walking or talking in their sleep happens when a person dreams. Dogs too would manifest similar movements when they dream. A dog will shake if it is dreaming of giant rabbits. Abused dogs are noted to have the tendency to shake in their sleep as the traumatic experiences are relieved in the dream. Dogs are happy creatures thus it is expected that they will have happy dreams but nightmares will make these animals shake in their sleep too. Dogs usually snap out of the bad dream but it wouldn't hurt if you let the pet know that you are there.
