What Makes One Airline More Successful Than The Other In Flying The International Flights

Aviation industry is strange

Aviation industry is strange. On the same turf and in the same markets, you can see the fortunes of one airline getting to the ebb and that of the other skyrocketing. The critics would keep on making the comparisons and analyzing the factors which lead to these variations in fortunes and have their lessons prepared as case studies for management.

1.Better Understanding of the market and how it will change in the future: By knowing what the customer wants from the airline or what their demands are likely to be in future, the airline is able to devise the right mix of product, services and prices so that the airline continues to operate at optimal levels of profitability.

A better understanding would also mean that the airline is able to serve the customer well. It is able to provide customer service to the utmost satisfaction of the customers.

2.Careful analysis of competition: Those who misjudge the competition, take wrong decisions. If there is an underestimation of the extent of competition, there are good chances of being lethargic and letting the competitors become big threats. Similarly, over-estimating the threat of competition could make the airlines take decisions which are very costly and are likely to affect the current operations. So, a reasonable judgment of the scope and extent of competition threat shall be analyzed and strategies shall be developed and executed well in time.

3.Adopting right strategy at right time: As in every business, if you take the right decision at the right time, you are likely to hit the bulls eye more often. The successful airlines neither overshoot, nor undershoot when it comes to taking right decisions at the right time. Based on the analysis of objective and subjective factors, the airlines are able to devise the right strategy which shall be executed at the most opportune time. Strategies are long term in nature and therefore these are based on the visionary approach of the top management.

4.Flexibility: Since the aviation business is highly variable from day to day and from season to season, there has to be flexibility of approach in-built in the through-out the internal working of the airline. The most successful airlines are the ones which are able to adapt in changing circumstances. However, there shall be set parameters on the extent of change which will not affect the brand image of the airline. So, if offering of cheap air tickets by the airline is likely to dilute its brand equity due to lean season low demand, then the airline not decide to go with it. Therefore, clear limitations and restrictions shall be well delineated.
