What Makes You Different Makes You Beautiful

The main problem of our society now is that there seems to always be a specified unspoken rule about everything. In many ways, the society seems to dictate how people should act, believe, and be, even in the matters of the heart. Women these days have the misconception that through looks alone, they would manage to make men fall in love and capture their interest for long-term relationships. The unnerving focus of this generation on trivial matters such as physical attributes and appearances, social standing, and popular culture preferences is still quite shocking despite how long this has been going on. And while this may be acceptable to the greater portion of the society, when this kind of belief is incorporated with love and relationships, the whole fiasco just gets tragic. One must always remember how men fall in love with real, flawed, natural women, and not with synthetic-looking dolls who have been under the knives countless of times already.

In a society that promotes a specific standard of how beauty should look, being different could be quite a curse, especially for women. Women who are different from the stereotype are put under too much scrutiny that they are, eventually, pushed into changing themselves to fit the model of beauty that the society follows just so they would finally fit in. It is quite ironic that our age promotes individuality in words and ideas, when the media tells us otherwise. Advertisements commonly use the "use this to get the man" promo where they urge people to change how they look, how they smell, and what they eat just so they would finally fall under the category that would make them more attractive. Women are told that men fall in love with skinny, model-type girls with really shiny blonde hair and pouty lips, while men are told that females like buff guys. Thus, we find the society full of women and men who claim that they are individual, but, in closer scrutiny, look practically the same. This specific phenomenon weighs more on women because they are not the ones who get to do the picking. In a world where men have the right to pick their mate first, women couldn't help but run around in circles, desperately wishing they are thinner, more appealing, and sexiermore of the type men fall in love withso that they would find their match. With this kind of mindset, it is no wonder why only few dare to be different and to challenge the status quo. It is far too risky because deep down all we want is to be loved, and although some will never admit this out loud, we would do absolutely almost everything to be loved in return, even though it means having to change how we look for someone.

Despite all these, it is still quite interesting how in many interviews and surveys, results show that men fall in love with women who have a distinct difference from everyone else and that while looks could capture a man's eyes, his heart is capture by the more personal, more intimate things. Women should realize that while the glitter that physical appearance could capture a man's attention, it could also blind him after too long. It is great to know that love is still quite immune to the trivial pressures of the stereotypes. In love and relationships, what's inside weighs more than what is outside.
