. So many elements go into a successful hotel stay, but there are certain things that will definitely make it or break it. From New York City to Los Angeles to Palestine, Texas, hotels are one of the most critical elements of a vacation. So what are the things that make a hotel stay great or make a hotel stay awful? Is it clean?

Quite possibly the most important element of a hotel stay is the cleanliness of the hotel facility and especially the guest rooms. If you walk into a hotel and the floors are dirty, there's dust on all the furniture and the lobby smells musty, this sets the tone for the rest of the experience. And it's not a good tone. Once you get past the lobby, you'll be turned off if the hallway carpets are stained and threadbare or if the paint is dirty or the wallpaper is peeling. Then, once you get to your room, cleanliness becomes an even bigger factor. Whether you're in New York, Los Angeles or Palestine Texas hotels must be spotless and bright to really ensure a great stay.

Is the staff friendly?

The next most important element of a hotel stay is the friendliness of the staff. If you're greeted with a warm, sincere hello it's a very different feeling than if you barely get acknowledged when you walk in. A friendly staff is a must to make a hotel stay great.

Are there amenities?

The last critical component of a great hotel stay is the level of services and amenities. Is the Internet free? Is breakfast included? Is there a fitness room and a pool? If the answers to these questions are not a resounding "YES!" it will affect your stay.
