What Mothers Need To Know About Baby Bedding

Pregnancy can be a scary adventure into the unknown

, especially if youre a new mother, but choosing baby bedding shouldnt be. Babies are soft, beautiful, delicate, amazing little creatures that deserve everything around them to be just as soft and beautiful as they are. Baby furniture, or nursery furniture, is built to be sturdy, safe and adorable; decorated with cute cuddly animals, sailors, baseballs, flowers and Disney characters, and can be fun a fun experience for a willing shopper.

One of the most important pieces of the babys nursery is the baby bedding. Baby bedding has to meet certain federal standards for safety before it can be sold in retail stores. Also, there are certain safety guidelines that parents should follow regarding the use of baby bedding.

While baby bedding can be decorative and oh so cute, mothers should be aware of the hazards that baby bedding can pose to their children.

Baby bedding is usually made of soft materials, such as: cotton, cotton/polyester mix, and other synthetic materials. All of the materials used in baby bedding must pass specific tests for safety. The material must be breathable and fire resistant in order to provide the baby with bedding that will allow their skin to breathe, and bedding that wont catch fire easily.

Baby bedding is often small in size and made to fit the bed perfectly. If the bottom sheet is too loose, it can pull free of the mattress and could suffocate the baby. Also, it isnt recommended to use a blanket on the baby until the baby is able to roll over on their own. The reasoning behind this is that when the baby is unable to roll over, the blanket may fall over the babys face. If the baby is unable to move out from under the blanket, they may suffocate. Blankets can also lead to overheating.

Baby bedding that is handmade by family members should be made using fire resistant yarn, and material. Handmade baby bedding should never have tassels, ruffles or any other addition that can come loose and pose a choking hazard to the baby.

Crib mattresses also pose risks to babies. If the mattress doesnt fit snugly into the crib it should be discarded and replaced with a mattress that is meant for that crib. Mattresses that are too small allow the baby to wedge their bodies or their faces between the side of the crib and the mattress. This can lead to internal injuries or death by suffocation.

Though baby bedding is a delightful addition to a babys room, but parents should always be aware and cautious with the things that are closest to their baby. For more information on the safety standards and baby bedding recommendation, parents should visit parenting websites.
