What Parts And Extras You Can Get For Your Guitar

As a beginner, you shouldn't be stressing too much over what accessories are available for your guitar

. That being said, if you have been playing for awhile and are committed to learning more as a guitarist and developing your playing, there are several parts and extras that you may find useful to achieve the musical effects you desire.

For your acoustic guitar, throwing a capo into the mix can be a worthwhile step to take. A capo is a plastic or metal clasp that fits over the strings of any guitar in any fret you want to place it. The effect is to shorten the length of the fingerboard (you can only play on one side of the capo) and increase the pitch at which you play. These are useful for artists playing songs that require different tunings but who don't want to have to tune up or down in between songs while playing live. In lieu of purchasing a capo, you can use a pencil or a pen and a piece of fishing line or string to rig a capo on any given fret. This method may not be as reliable as a store-bought capo, however.

If you want to play your acoustic guitar live, an acoustic guitar pickup may be useful. Attaching an external pickup to your guitar will provide you with the ability to connect to an amplifier and be heard by many people in a live setting. While some acoustic guitars--they're called acoustic-electrics--come equipped with internal pickups and in-guitar pickup settings, several manufacturers make pickups that can be installed in any acoustic guitar to give the player the ability to connect to a speaker or amplification unit.

Also useful to those playing their guitars live are wireless systems. If you have an acoustic or electric guitar that connects to an amplifier and you want the ability to move around on stage without the limitations of a guitar cable, a wireless system connects directly to your pickup or your guitar's output jack, attaches to your belt or guitar strap, and sends a signal to your amplifier so that you can play without the hindrances of wires. Even if you don't move around a lot on stage, wireless units can be useful if you're worried about tripping over your cable or you fear your cable may come unplugged.

In addition, guitar effects pedals can provide a number of different sounds and variations to one's playing. While most effects pedals cater to electric guitar players, those who play acoustic-electrics or acoustic guitars with pickups can still make use of volume pedals, whammy pedals, and whole host of others. For electric guitar players, the greatest variety in effects pedals is seen in the distortion and overdrive pedals offered by many manufacturers. Still, as a beginner, your focus should be on developing as a guitarist. When you're ready to branch out, there is a plethora of effects pedals out there to satiate any desire you may have to achieve that unique sound you've been yearning to emulate.
