One of the best times to decide whether or not a surgeon that you're investigating is the right one for you is at the consultation. A large number of complications can be avoided if a surgeon is sufficiently experienced.

You will also want to know what their success rate. How often do they experience complications or patient dissatisfaction? How often do they have to perform revisions of their surgeries? Ask to see before and after photos of some of their recent patients. See as many as possible, because this will give you an idea of what sorts of results they get. Keep in mind that they may be showing you the best of their work, but that you will probably not achieve results better than what they are showing you. Can you get the names and contact info for some of their patients? If you can get in contact with some previous patients, you may be able to get a better sense for how satisfied people are with the procedure.

You will also want to get a sense for their office policies. What are their policies on post-op care? How long and often will you be able to come in for post-op appointments? What is their policy on revisions? If your surgery is unsuccessful and a revision is required, will you be charged again? What are their financial policies? How much will your liposuction cost?

You will also want to ask detailed questions about the physical nature of the procedure. How long will the liposuction take? How much soreness should you expect afterward? What amount of bruising and scarring is normal? Are your goals for physical results realistic? How much time will you have to take off from work? From exercise and other activities?

Make sure that you get enough information from your surgeon so that you feel comfortable making an informed choice about your upcoming surgery. It's your body, and it's your right to have the information you need to make the best choice possible.
