What Really Happens During A smile Makeover?

The Secrets To Total Transformation

The Secrets To Total Transformation

Over the past few years, the term smile makeover has entered our language, popping up in advertisements, on the web, and even in the news. However, exactly what a smile makeover accomplishes or who its geared towards isnt always clear. The fact is, a smile makeover can be almost anything, and can improve the appearance and health of a wide range of patients with a wide range of dental issues.

Specifically, a smile makeover is a combination of cosmetic dentistry procedures designed to bring out the very best in a persons smile. Its not about giving people cookie-cutter grins that all look alike. A smile makeover smile is specifically designed to bring out the best in each patient.

For this reason, a good smile makeover will begin with a full assessment of the patients appearance, starting with the shape and color of their teeth and how they fit in the mouth, and expanding to include hair and skin color and facial features. The dentist will then assess the current state of the patients teeth. Is the color even and attractive? Are there problems with the shape of the teeth, or the line of the teeth overall? Are any teeth missing, or damaged, or otherwise malformed? Are there spaces between any of the teeth?

Once the dentist determines the issues the smile makeover will address, he or she will design an overall treatment plan utilizing a combination of treatments to correct the problems and create a smile that is not only beautiful, but also that fits the mouth and face of the patient. The patient may even be able to sneak a peek at what their new smile will look like through computer imaging.

Cosmetic dentists can choose from a long list of treatments to design the perfect smile for each individual patient. These treatments can include tooth-colored restorations to replace visible metal fillings and whitening to remove stains and brighten a smile overall. Veneers and crowns can be used to cover damaged or malformed teeth, bonding and veneers are used to reshape or lengthen teeth, and dental implants combined with crowns or dentures replace missing teeth.

Rough teeth can be retextured to look and feel smooth and strong again. Teeth that overlap, have gaps between them or are just generally crooked can be moved via orthodontics like invisible braces, or can simply be reshaped with veneers. There are even treatments that can improve the look of a gummy smile, or make a patients lips or cheeks appear fuller.

Because of this attention to detail, the result of a smile makeover is usually a beautiful smile that not only looks great, but brings out the very best in each patients individual beauty. Which means smile makeovers dont just change peoples teeth. In many cases, they actually change their lives.
