What Samples Are Used For Research Purposes

Research is basically the finding of material on a particular subject or topic

. The process of finding tends to be detailed with evidence regarding everything that is presented. However, this evidence can be in the form of data that is statistical or empirical. But in any case, the proof is important. Then besides the finding of the source of the given area, its practical application in the world is also to be noted down.

The samples used for research purpose are specimens from people, objects, things or situations to substantiate and give evidence of a particular research. The procedure of gathering samples is very important in a research as it supports the research to a large extent. It is often done at the primary and elementary level of the research and thus it carries a lot of validity and value.

Second type is non-probability sampling as they are not actually representative; non-probability samples are less enviable than prospect samples. However, a researcher may not be able to get hold of a random or a stratified sample, or it may be too costly. A researcher may not be concerned about generalizing a generously proportioned population. The soundness of non-probability samples can be amplified by trying to fairly accurate random selection, and by eliminating as many basis of prejudice as possible. The further two types of non- probability samples are quota sample and convenience sample.

However, that sample size is selected which is easier to handle and which has the least chances of error. Once the sample size is decided, the next thing is the selection of the sampling technique. There are a lot many sampling techniques that can be used for the purpose of research. A brief overview of some of them is explained below.

The two major types of samples that are used for research purpose are probability samples and non-probability samples. The probability samples are those in which every element has equal chances of selection from the population, whereas in non-probability samples the case is totally opposite.

Some theoretical samples can also be used when it comes to research that is theory based. Samples not as statistical values but as sentence form theories can also be very useful. For theoretical purposes it is most advisable to have samples, because the time consumption is ideal in such a case. Many educational researches also need sampling and the theoretical ones is the best one recommended.

These various kinds of samples are the tools of research oriented programmes. They are extremely important as they are there to validate the research. Thus, with growing times and frequent research projects, these samples are being frequently conducted and established. The proof or evidence of anything today, is crucially important too.

In short, no matter what type of a research a person is conducting, it will include some sort of sample, whether on a large or a small scale. Without considering samples, one cannot complete his or her research otherwise it will be based on assumptions which will not give an accurate picture.
