What Sort Of Maintenance Will Your Ride On Mower Need?

If you want your mower to work properly and efficiently

, you will need to ensure that you keep up a regular maintenance regime caring for your ride on mower is no different and will, in fact, require even more maintenance (due to its larger engine). You may also find that your ride on lawnmower is subjected to more problems, simply because it is used more often and for longer time periods. But what sorts of maintenance will your ride on lawnmower need?

Thankfully, most ride on mowers should come with a manual that tells you exactly what sorts of maintenance are needed for your model, as well as when these tasks need to be performed. If, however, you have purchased a model that didnt come with a detailed manual or you have purchased a second hand one, this helpful guide will give you an insight into mower maintenance:

Before each use of your ride on mower

Check the level of your engine oil, fuel and all other fluids. By ensuring that these do not need to be topped up before using will ensure that you do not have to stop your mowing job halfway through because you have run out of petrol, for example. It will also help you to plan larger mowing jobs so that you are as close to your supplies as possible when they will need to be refilled.

Check the tire pressure of your mower, as there is nothing more annoying than getting a flat halfway through your mowing job and being miles away from your house.

Check all of the hardware of your mower, such as the steering wheel, seat and gear sticks. If anything wobbles or moves when it shouldnt, be sure to tighten them before using.

After every 5 hours of use

Check the engine oil levels to determine whether they need to be topped up. Failure to do this could result in your mower overheating, which can cause considerable (and costly) damage to your machine.

After every 25 hours of use

Check the air filter. Whilst, most often, it will only require a quick clean, if you notice any signs of wear or tear you should replace it.

Oil and grease any of the moving parts of your mower, or those that require constant lubrication.

After every 100 hours of use

Check that the spark plug is still in good working order and clean the battery terminals to ensure a good power connection.

Clean your ride on mowers blades and sharpen them (if needed). You should also check the fuel filter at the same time.

By planning out a proper and regular maintenance schedule, you can ensure that your ride on mower is in fantastic working condition for many years to come. It is always a good idea to keep a log outlining when your mower is used and for how long so that you can determine when the above maintenance tasks need to be performed.
