When people wear jewelry, there are times that they subconsciously intend the jewelry they wear to articulate something on their behalf

. That is one reason behind why people chose to wear a certain type of jewelry at a particular occasion. It is most likely that there is a certain message one wants to send to other parties who will be present at that event.

William Butler Yeats, a Nobel Prize winner and accepted by many as the greatest poet of the Twentieth Century, used word symbols, such as a rose, to covey his thoughts. That is why he was also known as a great symbolist poet. Yet many of us, though maybe not as conspicuous as Mr. Yeats, also use symbols in expressing ourselves.

Let us take a look at the symbols we use in general and jewelry in particular. It is true that the connotations behind each pieces of jewelry may be different from situation to situation. The sentimental value behind a piece of jewelry you buy at the mall and one that was given to you by someone who loves you will definitely be not the same. But there are also jewelry designed in symbolic shapes that helps you in getting your message across, symbolically though it may be.

Consider the giving or the wearing of a necklace with a heart shape pendent. The heart is a universal symbol of love. It can express for you the love you have for someone, or on wearing it, that you are a romantic person. Giving a horseshoe shape jewelry may work the same if not better as wishing someone a good luck. Wearing a crucifix is like telling everyone that you are a Christian and wearing of a wedding ring will let everyone know that you are married. Wearing a zodiac symbol will tell people under which stars you were born while wearing an expensive diamond ring may give a hint to the people about you wealth. Some are even more direct in their expressiveness by having phrases written on them.

So we now know that the jewelry we wear sometimes do speak for us. And if we were not aware of it that much before, we should start keeping it a little more in our minds. Even if we are no aware of it ourselves, our jewelry might be secretly conversing with others.
