What To Do 3 Weeks Before The Removals Company Arrive

When moving, many start to plan months in advance

. However, there is something you cannot do too early. Once you have found a new home, new job and you have set a date, it is time to make a plan where you create a clear timeline for your move. When there is only 3 weeks left you are at a tipping point. It might still feel like the moving day is far away, but it will be there a lot quicker than you think, and by being prepared you can save yourself a lot of stress.

Having 3 weeks where you still need to use your clothes and some other belongings means that you are not in a position to pack up everything yet. However you would be surprised to see how much you can get away with putting in boxes or bags. Pack anything that is not in season such as winter coats and boots, or sandals and little summer dresses. You might be surprised at how much you can put away. Organise everything you have in storage and in cupboards and boxes around the house. Mark these boxes clearly and ensure that they tie in with the rest of your organisation.

You should also be able to pack up valuables that you are looking to move yourself. This can include jewellery or smaller high value items. You might choose to move these yourself to avoid the insurance fees that these items often result in when moved by removal companies. These items should be put into jewellery boxes or other protective packaging. Ensure that no loose parts will slip out or get lost along the way. Keep them in a safe place and stored so that no one else can find them.

Three weeks before you move is also a good point in time to let people know where you are moving to. Notify people of your new address at this point as it might take some time to register. Make a list of who needs to know, including banks, mobile phone providers, other service providers and so on. These will need your new address to make sure that they can forward any mail. You must also let the council know so that you can get a new council tax bill sorted out as soon as possible. This might be an opportune moment to change your direct debits and standing orders as well to correlate with your new home. Being this prepared will save you a lot of stress and hassle when your moving date is upon you.
