It's important for an organisation to promote the physical health of its employees
, because healthy workers perform better on the job and also need less time off for illness. A good way to encourage your employees to stay fit is to create a program that will allow them to exercise in the convenience of the workplace. Unfortunately, such programs are optional, and it might be hard to convince your less physically healthy workers to even attempt a change of lifestyle!
Why are the least fit individuals so often reluctant to take advantage of a program that will so obviously benefit their well-being? Sometimes it seems like certain employees don't really care if they live or die ... and this may very well be the case. Psychological illnesses, such as depression, can drain the energy from a person and cause that individual to appear apathetic towards many things - including life and death. If such an endeavor is not within the company's budget, an alternative course of action is to seek out items such as self-help books and computer software that can be made available to any employee with a need. While by no means a sure-fire cure, these tools may help your suffering workers to recognise their problem, and perhaps even seek outside Therapy. Understanding their illnesses is often a big step towards employees being able to surpass their mental blocks against exercise and healthy living once and for all! Even if it is simply a matter of circulating a list of online resources, anything you can do to help unhealthy employees is worth the time and effort involved.
Before you label an employee as "lazy" or "slothful", it is always best to explore further and determine any underlying causes of their disinterest in healthful living. This knowledge can help you to motivate the person towards change!
