What To Expect With A Face Lift
A face lift is a surgical procedure that can take years off you face by making your loose skin tight again
. Most patients who have had a face lift, report being generally happy with the results of their surgery and for most patients the results are long term.
The procedure itself takes two to three hours and is done under either a general anesthesia or a local anesthesia and can be done on an outpatient basis. The best candidates are generally at least thirty years old, in good overall health, have elasticity in their skin and have realistic expectations about their surgical results.
There are a variety of factors that will affect your overall results including skin type, elasticity, bone structure, ethnicity, and the degree of wrinkles you have. Your surgeon will evaluate you during the initial consultation to determine incision placement and take before photographs for your medical records. Your surgeon will also go over the procedure with you in more depth so you will have a realistic idea about what the surgical outcome will be.
The incisions will be placed just inside the hair line at the temple and extend down the natural curve of the ear, making the scars less visible. The surgeon will then reshape and sculpt your face by pulling up sagging skin and muscle and suturing your skin back in its new position. Your doctor will probably also put in surgical drains to drain excessive blood and fluid, which can be removed within a few days when the bandages are changed.
Some common side effects associated with a face lift include; temporary bruising, numbness, tingling sensation and swelling. Most patients respond well with ice packs to ease the swelling and pain medication to control the discomfort. You should be able to return to normal activities within one to two weeks as long as you avoid extreme activities while you heal.
Sutures can be removed in five to ten days when you have your follow up appointment so your doctor can assess your progress towards healing.
The actual cost of your face lift will vary by your surgeon's fees, your geographic area and how involved your procedure is. However the average cost you should expect for a face lift is between six and fifteen thousand dollars. You should expect fees in three areas, your surgeon fee, your anesthesia fee and your facility fee. You should expect your anesthesia fee to run between $1,000 and $1,300. The facility fee will run from $500 to $2,000. The remaining balance will be your surgeon's fees, which should be the highest fee to expect.
