What To Talk About In Your Mother Of The Bride Speech

Your daughter's wedding is likely to be a touching event anyway and adding a speech to the mix can make things even more emotional for you. After spending a lifetime together the two of you share a special bond including memories of both the good times and bad.

So what topics should you talk about during your mother of the bride speech that will be appreciated by the newlyweds? Here are a few "safe" suggestions to consider.

When it's time to craft your speech, brainstorm for awhile first and reminisce about some of the happiest times in your daughter's life. You may also want to include the memorable day when she met her then future and now husband.

But, if that's not something you prefer to mention or know enough about, be sure to mention something else about your new son-in-law such as when the two of you first met or when and how you both knew he was right for her.

Summarize all of your daughter's most special accomplishments and how proud you have been of her throughout her life. You might want to touch upon especially memorable moments such as the day she went to school for the first time or when she learned how to ride her first bike.

But for the sake of your now grown daughter, please leave the pictures of bath time or any other embarrassing poses at home. Instead, talk about how she was a daddy's girl or any of the activities she used to enjoy as a child.

Whatever subjects you choose to talk about there are a few quick guidelines you should keep in mind first:

- Keep your whole speech as lighthearted as possible. Everyone is there to enjoy themselves and not to think or talk about anything unpleasant.

- Stay away from anything that could be embarrassing to your daughter or to her new husband as you certainly don't want them to not be speaking to you when they return from their honeymoon.

- If you're less than fond of your new son-in-law, keep these feelings to yourself as mentioning this will surely put a damper on the festivities.

You might want to consider ending your mother of the bride speech with a few sage words about what marriage really means and how this bond between a man and woman is like no other. Talk about commitment, trust, love, and understanding and how the two of them will be able to face any challenges together.
