What To Visit When In Antalya

Although it is just a small city situated in southwest Turkey

, Antalya is a well known tourist destination as the government has turned the old farming village into a traveler's heaven because of the beautiful beaches stretching on the shore. Also, the government took this decision in order to offer work for people that used to work at the many casinos in the area.

Because of the beauty of the place Antalya is visited by millions of people each year. If you are passionate about history, you can take a walk through the Serik district where you will find Aspendos. Also, this is the place to be if you like live performances which are held at the Aspendos theater. In Perga you can visit the ancient agora, and in Side, you can visit the Temple of Apollo. Antalya Castle is now the home of many nice hotels and restaurants. Historical mosques, such as the Yivli Minare can be seen in the city center. Other historical wonders include Hadrian's Gate and the Rock Cut Tombs of Termessos.

One may think Antalya is worth visiting just for water sports, but nothing could be further from the truth. In Olympos National Park you can enjoy other activities such as hiking or rock climbing. Beautiful rivers and waterfalls make for a picturesque visiting area. There are also many other events you can attend in Antalya such as the World Championship Rally.

Travelers are recommended to stay indoors in the afternoon during summer, as the temperature is extremely hot. Be aware that the sea sometimes gets muddy so you may want to check this aspect before bathing in the sea waters.

Traditional food includes a special dish called Piyaz, which is made with garlic, beans, and walnuts, but this is not the only type of food served in Antalya's restaurants. Mediterranean cuisine is present here in many forms so if eating healthy is your style, there are plenty of dishes made with olive oil. Fish dishes are also quite common since Antalya rests on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea.

You will find plenty of five star hotels in Antalya and you can choose between plenty of accommodation. Investments transformed the city into a veritable resort that many tourists love to visit. International chains are also present so you can really take your pick when you choose a place to stay.

If you want to take a walk in the historical city center you will be amazed with the numerous bars and restaurants that are housed by the old building. Also, you are invited to go there in order to do some serious shopping as the locals are well known as traders that are able to sell you anything.

The most important square in Antalya is Cumhuriyet Square, a place where open air exhibitions are often held for tourists along with live performances.
