What Training Do I Need To Use Or Work On Powered Access Platforms?
Powered access platforms are different types of lifts that are typically used for construction and maintenance type purposes
. Cherry pickers and scissor lifts are two examples of powered platforms. Cherry picker employees are always in high demand and can be hard to find workers that meet the necessary requirements for the job. While many would like to be able to work on powered platforms, there is training that is required to gain certification to work on them.
IPAF, also known as the International Powered Access Federation, promotes safety in the workplace where powered platforms are used. Throughout the United Kingdom, there are courses that are offered that are accredited by the IPAF. When applying for jobs in this field, it is very important to have certification through an IPAF accredited class. This certification process will ensure that prospective job seekers know how to handle the machinery in a safe and effective manner, so that accidents are less likely to occur.
Not only is it in the employee's best interest to be trained in the operation of powered platforms, but it is also required under five different regulations, including the Working at Height Regulations, the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations, the Lift Operating and Lifting Equipment Regulations, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations, and the Health and Safety at Work Act.
After finding a facility that offers IPAF accredited training throughout the United Kingdom, students will learn in both a classroom and on the job environment. In the classroom, students will be taught the basics of powered platforms, learning how to use them, and safety regulations. Through the on the job training, students will be taught in an environment where powered platforms are present. This will include operating the machines and being tested at how well they are able to safely and effectively operate it. Typically, training for powered platform operators only takes about one or two days to become certified. Other courses that are available in the operation of powered platforms include MEWPs for Managers, IPAF Demonstrators, IPAF Instructors, and IPAF Harness training. Some or all of these certifications may be required for select jobs.
All classes are taught by trained individuals who have years of experience in operating powered platforms. When taking an IPF accredited class, students can be sure that they are learning from only the best. If looking for powered platform training, find a location nearby to see if registration must be completed in advance, or if they are taking last minute students that are looking for work.
