What We Need to Know About Intestinal Yeast Infection
Yeast infection, as a whole, is caused by the multiplication and overgrowth of natural yeast which we have in our bodies. Though yeast, also called Candida albicans, is biologically found in our body to help with the digestion of food, the overgrowth of these fungi causes intestinal yeast infection. It happens in different parts of the body, but as in the case of an intestinal yeast infection, here are a few things we need to know. An intestinal yeast infection is caused by the excessive presence of yeast inside the intestines. Vaginal yeast infections for women, and yeast infections in men, are major symptoms of having an intestinal yeast infection. For babies, oral thrush is a major symptom for an intestinal yeast infection. No one is exempt from the risk of having an intestinal yeast infection. Too much carbohydrates and the intake of too many sweets are the main reasons for the having the yeast in our bodies overgrow. The lack of proper nutrition like vitamins, minerals, and fiber make these fungi multiply in excessive levels. Taking antibiotics and other conventional medicines also contribute to the increase of fungi in the intestines since they destroy the good bacteria, therefore disrupting the immune system and giving way to intestinal yeast infection.
When curing an intestinal yeast infection, it is not as easy as the treatment of vaginal yeast infections. For the latter, over-the-counter anti-fungal creams are available for use. As for intestinal yeast infections, anti-fungal drugs are not the solution. These drugs destroy even the good bacteria inside the intestines, and make the immune system weak. When all the bacteria are killed, the intestines are left as better places for bacteria and fungi to mutate and multiply. Therefore, these drugs will only make an intestinal yeast infection worse. Intestines need good bacteria to level it off with those fungi. Once there is an imbalance with these bacteria, intestinal yeast infections become more difficult to cure. It may even become fatal if kept untreated and may enter the bloodstream and damage more internal organs.
As what has been mentioned earlier, the use of prescriptive drugs do not help in treating or curing intestinal yeast infections as it disrupts the immune system. Natural treatment such as garlic or yogurt will be of great help bring back the balance of good bacteria and yeast inside the intestines. Yogurt strengthens the immune system and gives way to good bacteria to recuperate, thus fighting off the excess Candida. Just make sure it is plain, unsweetened yogurt, so that it will fully help treat the intestinal yeast infection naturally. Taking yogurt as treatment for an intestinal yeast infection is also most successful when combined with proper diet.
