What Winter Is Like In Rome Italy
While those that live here on a year round basis may find winters cold and need a heavy coat
, if you live somewhere that has four different distinct seasons, you will wonder what all the fuss is about.
You may experience rain at times, and this can make the weather a bit chilly. If you are visiting Rome in the winter, then it's still a good idea to bring a warm jacket, as well as an umbrella. You can still enjoy plenty of sunshine and relatively warm temperatures, and you can still enjoy relaxed walks, and see the sights without trouble. In fact, except during the holidays, Rome can be very uncrowded at this time of year, unlike during the summer months. Even in the dead of winter, in December and January, you will have many days where it the highs will be 13 degrees Celsius or better. During the night is the only real time you may need a heater on, and there is still more than four full hours of sunshine in the day time.
There are many things about winter in Rome that you shouldn't miss. There are plenty of festive lights, and street musicians are out in Santa Costumes. The shops will throw out red carpets, and have plenty of items to buy. Even if you find it a little chilly here and there, then all you have to do is step into one of the many cafes and have some strong hot coffee that Italy is famous for. There are many nativity scenes in and around Rome, and there is even a life size nativity scene in Vatican City. This too is a place that can't be missed around Christmas, with the Pope giving midnight mass on Christmas Eve, and reading his message on Christmas day in the piazza at noon in front of Saint Peter's Cathedral.
There are many different opinions on what kind of clothes you should bring when you visit here in the winter, and if you chill easily, then you will need a hat and gloves, and maybe some ear muffs. You can still dine outside in many of the restaurants and cafes because many have elevated heaters to help keep you warm.
If you decide to visit Rome during the winter, then rent a holiday apartment instead of a hotel. There will be plenty of room for you and your family, and well as all the things you bought on your day of shopping. There are private bedrooms, and some have more than one bathroom. You also get your own fully equipped kitchen, and what greater way to enjoy the culture of Rome than from buying food at the plentiful local markets and food stores? There are plenty of discounts on not only apartments, but food and travel as well. You can find great deals if you book your apartment online, which is quite easy to do.
