What Would You Do With A Shed?

Sometimes there is just not enough space in your house to accommodate all the stuff you have or all the things you need to do

. Or perhaps there are certain activities or hobbies you have that do not belong in the house. Maybe you have a large collection of vintage sewing machines that need their own place to reside. Maybe you love to repair and revamp old vehicles and need sufficient space to store all your supplies and do you work.

In occasions such as these, it might be useful to you to make or purchase a shed. A shed is an extra building, usually the size of one room in your house, that is placed somewhere on your property and used for such unique circumstances as the ones listed above. They can be simple, such as a pool side shed with an outdoor shower, a bathroom inside, and a place to store the pool chairs and toys. Commonly, you will hear about tool sheds, where dad keeps all his machinery and tools that he needs for his handy-man projects around the house. If you loved blacksmithing, you would probably would want a shed to facilitate your hobby and all the tools necessary for it. Some sheds can be a little more extravagant, depending on the facilities that you have and the purpose of the shed. If you are a motocross champion, you might need a large shed to store all of your bikes, as well as a portion of that shed where you could work on fixing up your bikes.

Alex Jordan, Jr. is a man with many sheds. He designed a unique layout of rooms, shops, gardens, and streets in Spring Green, Wisconsin that is known as the House on the Rock. This has become a regional tourist attraction for the area. The house itself was built on top of Deer Shelter Rock, a column of rock about 60 feet tall, with a top of about 70 feet by 200 feet, and is reminiscent of the style of Frank Lloyd Wright. Besides the house, however, are numerous sheds that house Jordan's vast collections of strange things. There is one such shed named The Heritage of the Sea building. This massive shed has several nautical exhibits, the main attraction being a 200 foot model of a whale-like creature. Another shed is called The Music of Yesterday, and features his large collections of automated music machines, operated by inserting tokens. Most of the tour of House on the Rock, in fact, is walking through these sheds, and not actually through the house.

Though Alex Jordan was a little extreme with his sheds and collections, a simple stand-alone shed in your backyard might be the perfect place to store your table saw and hammers as well as provide a little escape to privacy.
