What You Could Find In Beechworth Victoria

The Australian Alps is home to many things, just north east of Victoria

, Australia, and an enchanting nineteenth century lays. Significantly preserved or restored buildings that appear to resemble the pages of a history book surround Beechworth Victoria. Cozy elegant streets lined with trees announce the unabashed beauty this town has to offer.

The town is just brimming with many well-known tales and some not so well known about the towns exciting history. The town became recognised for its gold mining; during its boom of the gold rush the town had occupants from many other countries and had as many as thirty one hundred people.

While the town was expanding so was its economy, with a brewery, tannery, jeweller and blacksmith a foundation began. Other services became required such as hotels, schools, stagecoaches, and hospitals. Police, prison and a courthouse became necessary as well as an asylum. The town preserved many of these buildings in their original condition, but occasionally it was necessary to restore them.

Enjoy dining outdoors in one of the cafes lining the streets or sample the divine dishes from the restaurant chefs. Perhaps relax as you travel from one shop to the next perusing the local shops like the Beechworth Bakery or the sweet treats in the Beechworth Sweet Co. You could spend the day enjoying a leisurely walk through some of the galleries, pottery and antique displays to view the impressive talents of the local artists.

The Robert O'Hara Burke Museum is home to many historical displays, while you are there you might wish to learn about the exciting events that made up the gold rush. Each display has a story to tell if you have the time to go through it, even one about Ned Kelly. The courthouse should have information on him too, his past was entwined with that of the courthouse.

If the other things have not interested you, perhaps you will find it at the Powder Magazine where the miners had used it to hold the black powder they used in the mines. The Golden Horseshoes Festival is held Easter weekend, so if you happen to be visiting Beechworth then, you could be in attendance. It begins with the shoeing of a horse using gold horseshoes and people will line the streets to watch the parade, maybe you.

With so much to do, you might forget that there are many activities to do here. Tours are offered in many places, with so much history and many sights to see your schedule will be packed full. There is always swimming, bike riding, or golfing for the less adventurous to enjoy. Maybe you would like to try your hand at some bushwalking or gold panning. Wherever your adventures take you, you will be surrounded by a gorgeous scenic vista.

Be sure to check up on the many animals and the like that could be in the region.
